Is it safe?

Yes!  It is of upmost importance to everyone that the environment that you get tattooed in is of hospital grade sterilization.  We use a mix between one-time use disposable tubes as well as stainless steel tubes that have been sterilized through and onsite autoclave.  Our autoclave is tested weekly through a third-party company and all spore test results are logged at the shop.  All artists are required to attend a cross contamination class as well as a first aid course.  Needles are disposed of after every tattoo and all stations are sanitized after each client.  If you have any further questions about our sterility, please come by and we’d be happy to show you around!

Can I get tattooed if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Getting tattooed while pregnant or breast-feeding has the possibility of complications to your health and that of your baby.

Can you tattoo over a scar?

It depends on the severity and maturity of the scar. This is judged on a case-by-case basis. In general, a scar should be at least one year old, and have healed to your skin color.

Can someone sign for me if I'm under 18?

Unfortunately, the State of Georgia does not allow anyone under the age of 18 to get a tattoo. Sorry kids, gotta wait until you’re a legal adult.

Do tattoos hurt?

Pain is relative to the client. Everyone has a different tolerance to pain. Now it does hurt, just not enough to stop returning for more and more tattoos. The beauty and love of tattoos far outweighs the pain of getting the tattoo done.

Do I need an appointment to set up a consultation?

Short answer: no. But they are definitely recommended!

How do I set up an appointment?

It’s really quite easy!  After you have figured out what you would like as a tattoo, feel free to e-mail Kelly at or come by the shop for a free consult.  Kelly usually answers all e-mails within a 24-48 hour time period.  Next would be to call or visit the shop to place a non-refundable deposit to hold your date and time.  Then it’s tattoo time!  If you should need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, Kelly requires a 48-hour notice or your deposit will be forfeited.

What should I do before my appointment?

Before you leave the house, be sure to bring a valid government issue ID, we have to have it in person, it cannot be e-mailed or scanned. Make sure to wear appropriate clothing that gives easy access to the tattoo area.  We always recommend eating a meal before your appointment to give your body enough fuel to get through the tattoo.  Please do not drink alcohol or take any mind altering substances beforehand or it will result in your appointment being rescheduled.  If you’d like to bring a small snack and/or a drink with a lid, that is totally okay!  You are invited to bring one friend with you if you’d like the company but any more than that will have to wait in the lobby until your tattoo is completed.

How much does a tattoo cost?

Pricing can vary by location, size, detail, and time involved. Kelly works by an hourly rate, but call or email to further determine a price.

Where are you located?

Currently at The Butcher Tattoo Studio at 19 East Bay Street Savannah GA.

What if I'm allergic to latex?

Not a problem! Just let Kelly know and she can use a latex alternative with nitrile gloves.

I have dark skin, can I get color in my tattoo?

For the most part yes, but you will be limited in actual color choices depending on the art work.  If your skin is extremely dark, even due to tanning, colors like yellow or light blue will not stand well on your skin.  If you’re interested in color, please e-mail or come by the shop for a free consultation.

How much should I tip my artist?

Tips are always appreciated but never expected. But if you are pleased with your tattoo experience, 20% is a general starting point.

Do you do free touch-ups?

Yes, only on tattoos that Kelly has done, and within the first year of initial application. Finger tattoos and white tattoos are the exception to this rule. Another exception would be blatant disregard of aftercare provided to you after your initial appointment.
